Local Emergency Information

The following Courts and County Departments have made changes to their schedules or operations:

  • The 49th Circuit Court, 77th District Court, 18th Probate Court Joint Local Administrative Order
  • The Osceola County Friend of the Court SMILE Program scheduled on March 24th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and on April 21st from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. have been cancelled.  Please contact the Friend of the Court office (832-6131) if you need assistance or have questions. 
  • During this period of time the Osceola County Clerk’s office will be available by phone on Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.  We will only be handling “emergency” needs by appointment during this timeframe. (voicemails will also be checked during this timeframe). Email may also be sent to the County Clerk via oscclerk1@osceolacountymi.com.  This will be monitored regularly.  PPO filings may be scheduled by appointment when contacting 231-832-3261 ext. 2 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
  • The Veterans' Services office will be closed due to the Governor’s Executive Order.  Phone messages will be reviewed and returned on Monday and Friday for service needs.  The number to call and leave a message is 231-791-7082.
  • The County Coordinator's office, will return telephone and email messages as staff is available.  Office hours by appointment only, 231-832-6196.  oscadmin@osceolacountymi.com
  • The Community Development office, will return telephone and email messages as staff is available, 231-832-6196.  dmassy@osceolacountymi.com

Due to COVID-19, the Building Inspections Department office is currently closed to the public.  Please see www.osceola-county.org (Government, then County Departments) under Building Department for on-line services or email addresses.  Essential inspections, by appointment only, will be performed as determined by the Building Official.  You may leave a message at (231) 832-6117 or (231) 250-6805.  Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

Building Department Requirements


It is the mission of the Building Department to serve its customers with issuing permits and doing inspection in a timely manner.  During this time of crisis nobody is exempt from obtaining the proper permits by the 2015 Michigan State Building Codes or the required inspections. The complete requirements can be obtained in the 2015 Michigan Building Code Permit Section 105, Inspections Section 110, 110.1 thru 110.6

Short version: 110.1 Construction or work for which a permit is required shall be subject to inspections by the building official (also includes the electrical, plumbing and mechanical) and such construction or work shall remain ACCESSIBLE and exposed for inspection purposes until approved.

Neither the building official nor the jurisdiction shall be liable for expense entailed in the removal or replacement of any material required to allow inspection.
